Recently, the 2026 Opening Ceremony for New International Students of Beijing City University (BCU) was successfully held. Ye Yingfang, Vice Chair of the University Council of BCU, along with heads of relevant schools and programs and faculty representatives, gathered together with over 30 new international students to welcome this promising new beginning. The ceremony was hosted by Ma Xinkai, International Student Supervisor.
In her speech, Ye Yingfang extended a sincere welcome to the new students on behalf of all faculty and students. She emphasized that BCU has always adhered to the philosophy of open education and is committed to deepening people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and other countries. To date, it has established solid cooperative ties with nearly 100 universities worldwide. She encouraged the new students to cherish this hard-won opportunity, to pursue their studies with a rigorous and pragmatic attitude, and to fully integrate into the university's academic ecosystem. At the same time, she hoped they would immerse themselves in the profoundness of Chinese culture and grow into friendly ambassadors promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and other countries through exploration and practice.
Li Jiayi, Dean of the School of International Culture and Communication (SICC), gave a detailed introduction to the school's program features and all-foreign-language instruction model. She stated that in addition to professional courses, SICC will rely on diverse platforms such as themed salons and field study tours to build a bridge for in-depth interaction between Chinese and international students. She especially encouraged international students to make good use of the short video workshop as a practical platform to hone their international communication skills, record their experiences in China with vivid camera language, and present a real, three-dimensional, and comprehensive China to the world.
Regarding the daily life of international students, Li Xuemeng, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Office, comprehensively explained the daily management and service support system, highlighted "safe study in China" as a top priority, and encouraged scholarship recipients to cherish their honors and continue to maintain excellent qualities. Subsequently, Huang Yao, Head of the International Chinese Language Education Program, spoke on behalf of all teachers. She advised students to be brave in expressing themselves and diligent in practicing Chinese, to continuously break through their limits in real communication scenarios, and to improve their language application abilities.
Rito Alejandro Estrada Carrillo, an award-winning new student representative from Mexico, comes from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico's second-ranked comprehensive university. During the scholarship selection process, he stood out among many applicants with his high GPA and excellent overall qualities in the interview. In his speech, he said that this honor is both encouragement and motivation. He expressed his love for Chinese culture in Chinese and described his vision for the new academic year: "I will hold myself to higher standards and respond to this trust with solid academic results."
Musurmonkulov Azizbek Astonakulovich, a new student representative from Uzbekistan, shared his reflections from the perspective of cross-cultural integration. As an exchange student, he said emotionally: "Although we come from all over the world, here we share a common name — 'BCUers'." He looked forward to growing together with his classmates through the exchange of ideas and forging deep friendships through daily interactions. At the same time, he expressed his willingness to serve as a bridge for cultural exchange, sharing wonderful moments in Beijing through social media so that friends and family back home can see a vivid China.
At the highly anticipated presentation of the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students, university leaders presented certificates to the outstanding students who won the award this year and earnestly urged them to turn this recognition into motivation for moving forward, to be strict with themselves, and to persevere diligently on their future academic journey.
After the ceremony, the university arranged a campus tour and invited police officers from the Exit-Entry Administration to deliver legal education lectures and other activities, helping new students quickly familiarize themselves with laws and regulations and smoothly begin a wonderful life in Beijing.
