BCU Faculty Invited to Deliver Keynote Speeches at the Second Symposium on the Inheritance and Development of Traditional Architecture

Recently, the Second Symposium on the Inheritance and Development of Traditional Architecture was held at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. An Yifei and Liang Fei, faculty members from the School of Urban Construction (SUC) of Beijing City University (BCU), were invited to attend the symposium.

During the Outstanding Young Designer Paper Presentation session, An Yifei, as a winning representative, delivered a keynote report titled “Research on Preventive Conservation of Cultural Relieves Using Active Remote Sensing Technology.” The study demonstrated innovative applications of remote sensing and other new technologies in cultural heritage monitoring, emphasized the importance of shifting from remedial conservation to preventive conservation of cultural relics, and showcased the spirit of exploration and innovation of young faculty members at BCU.

During the Roundtable Dialogue session, Liang Fei joined other guests in an in-depth discussion on topics such as “the core aspects and content of conservation” and “paths and practices of innovative development.” The guests agreed that the conservation of traditional architecture should preserve both the “form” and the “spirit” — that is, protecting the physical substance while also passing on construction techniques and cultural values. Innovative development should be based on “upholding fundamental principles,” actively exploring new materials, technologies, and communication models, so that the wisdom of ancient architecture can be integrated into modern life.

Under the theme “Inheriting the Wisdom of Ancient Architecture, Empowering the Future with Craftsmanship,” the symposium brought together representatives from industry regulatory departments, research institutes, universities, enterprises, and cultural heritage protection units to discuss the contemporary issues of protecting, inheriting, and developing traditional architecture.
