From August 9 to 10, the finals of the 18th National Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science Competition, sponsored by the China Merchants Bank Cup and organized by the National Committee of this competition, were held at Northeast Petroleum University (Daqing). Guided by the Teaching Steering Committee for Energy and Power Engineering of the Ministry of Education, the event saw outstanding performance from a BCU team composed of faculty and students from the School of Urban Construction and the School of Information Technology, who were awarded the Third Prize—marking BCU’s first-ever achievement in this authoritative competition.

The student team members came from the School of Urban Construction’s majors in Landscape Architecture and Geographic Information Science, and the School of Information Technology’s majors in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and Big Data Technology. Focusing on key issues in Beijing’s urban development, the team conducted a carbon storage analysis of Nanyuan Wetland Forest Park—an important ecological space in southern Beijing. Through scientific calculation and quantitative evaluation, their project provided data support for low-carbon urban planning and ecological construction, demonstrating practical significance. The results reflect BCU’s ongoing exploration in ecological landscape research and highlight the positive impact of the university’s interdisciplinary and cross-departmental student training.

This competition is one of the 84 university student events recognized by the Ministry of Education. With the theme “Energy Conservation, Emission Reduction, and Green Energy,” this year’s edition attracted 7,736 valid entries from 692 universities across China, along with 254 industry-track entries from 85 universities, setting a new record in scale.
