Recently, the winners of the 2025 VPC National Virtual Production Competition for College Students were announced. The sci-fi short film Entropy of Dreams (梦熵), directed by faculty members Zhao Weiran and Shen Zhang, and performed by teachers Li Peng and Yu Dian, and produced by students Liu Bowen, Shen Zirou, and Zhang Chengshuo, won the First Prize in the North & Northeast China Regional Competition. Additionally, six other teams from our university, guided by instructors including Cao Fei, Zhang Zhonghuan, Liu Mingjia, and Qiu Sijun, secured second and third prizes respectively.

The National Virtual Production Competition for College Students is a nationwide event jointly guided by the China Filmmakers Association’s Digital Production Committee, the China Virtual Reality Technology and Industry Innovation Platform, and the Film and Television Industry and Management Committee of the China Higher Education Film and Television Association. The competition aims to promote the widespread application of virtual production, foster collaboration among universities, and enhance students’ creative and practical abilities. Each year, it attracts participation from hundreds of film, art, and comprehensive universities across China.

On March 8, our university successfully hosted the 2025 VPC National Virtual Production Competition’s nationwide circuit seminar, its North & Northeast China Regional Competition and Launch Ceremony. Vice President Hu Liqin of our university, Secretary-General Yu Wenjiang of the China Virtual Reality Technology and Industry Innovation Platform, and Director of the 2025 VPC Executive Committee Xie Ning attended this event.

From March 29 to 30, the 2025 VPC Offline Workshop was held at Dalian Medical University’s School of Arts, attracting over 200 faculties and students from more than ten universities, including Luxun Academy of Fine Arts and Dalian University of Technology. At the event, Nie Xiaohan, Director of the Future Imaging Center from the School of Performing Arts at our university, delivered a speech on behalf of the national organizing committee, providing insights into virtual production technology and case studies. Additionally, Zhao Weiran, also from the Future Imaging Center, gave a keynote lecture on "Digital Asset Creation and Scene Construction".

From April 19 to 20, our university, in collaboration with Communication University of Zhejiang and other schools, organized a sub-forum of the 8th Media Practice Teaching Innovation Seminar - an offline workshop of the National Virtual Production Competition. Nie Xiaohan served as the moderator and delivered a presentation titled “Breaking the Cocoon, Rebirth Through Intelligence: Practical Breakthroughs and New Paradigms of Industry-Education Integration in Empowering Liberal Arts Revitalization”.

This competition has further enriched the creative and practical teaching experience of our faculty and students while providing new case studies for industry-academia collaboration and interdisciplinary research. Moving forward, the university and the department will continue to explore innovative pathways for cultivating versatile digital talents to meet the demands of emerging and future industries.
