Recently, the Global Classical Music Competition (Beijing Division) 2024 - Ars longa: China Sound and Let the World Hear China - was held at the China Song Qingling Youth Science and Culture Exchange Center - State Grid Study Base in Beijing, co-organized by the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the China Philharmonic. Many students from the Music Education major participated in this competition and achieved excellent results. Pro.Wang Peng, Director of the Music Education major of the School was invited to serve as a judge for the piano category, while teachers Mr.Yu YuChen, Ms.Qian Zhenying, Ms.Ding Baihui, Mr.Huang Yuheng, Ms.Cao Wenqing, Ms.Wang Jiaqi, Ms.Zhao Qian, Ms.Wang Wen (external) and Ms.Zhang Haozhu (external) won the Excellent Guidance Teacher Award.
This competition, officially guided by the Sino-American Youth Artist Fund, is the first of its kind in China to combine Western classical instrumental and Chinese traditional instrumental performances into a professional music competition and exchange activity. The competition jury consists of renowned musicians, educators, and performers from China and abroad, aiming to ensure a high-level competition while disseminating more advanced and professional music education concepts, implementing beauty education, and promoting the exchange and development of Chinese and foreign art cultures. Students from universities in Beijing participated in the competition through music performances (including sight-reading) and music theory to compete for spots in the university's youth symphony orchestra. Ultimately, student Jiang Xingming from Beijing City University was selected as a composer in the orchestra, participating in daily training and performances and engaging in related social practice activities as a full member.
Since its establishment, the Music Education major has adhered to the market-oriented training principle, cultivating a multi-skilled music education talent while using traditional music major curriculum teaching methods. To meet the educational objectives of the Music Education major, the competition not only tests students' academic level but also hones their professional psychological qualities, performance experience, and provides a strong platform for the future development of the students' own professional careers.
