San Marino Confucius Institute Celebrates Spring Festival with Jiaozi-Making Event at Local School

On February 15th, The San Marino Confucius Institute was invited by a local secondary school to participate in the Experimental Class Week, to make Jiaozi with more than 40 students and teachers immersing themselves in Chinese New Year culture.

In anticipation, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute, Guo Xiaoxia, from the Institute introduced the literal and cultural significance of the Spring Festival, both within China and around the world. The teachers organized the following events and taught Chinese language related to Jiaozi, and everyone tasted the Spring Tea, sang the Chinese song Happy New Year” and made Jiaozi together. They also wrote the Chinese character “ (Good Fortune) to bless the New Year.

The interactive session sparked enthusiastic engagement, with students proudly declaring “Jiǎozi hǎo chī!” (The dumplings are delicious!) using their newly acquired Chinese language skills. The event’s success even drew several teachers who came to the school afterwards, asking for advice and expressing their desire to collaborate on next year's Experimental Week. Notably, this is the first time that the Chinese Spring Festival is organized among San Marino teens and youth after its inclusion by  UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and it marks another close contact between Chinese culture and the local community, following the previous celebration of Spring Festival by more than 200 local politicians and officials, leaders from the San Marino University and local public members.
