BCU Student Film "Goldfish" Selected for Multiple Film Festivals

Recently, the short film Goldfish, directed by Xu Ziyun, a student majoring in Radio and Television Directing (Film and Television Creation) from the School of Performing Arts, with Liu Mingjia, the Program Director, serving as the cinematography advisor, has been officially selected for several international film festivals. These include the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF), the Canadian Cinema & Television qualifying festival, the ARDEA Film Festival, and the Cipral Film Festival (CFF).

Goldfish focuses on the emotional struggles of contemporary youth. In the story, the protagonist, Xiaotong, faces a dual loss—being diagnosed with an illness while coping with the death of a close friend. Using a goldfish as an emotional anchor, she gradually confronts her inner trauma. Through restrained and subtle visual storytelling, the film delicately portrays her journey toward emotional and psychological recovery.

TINFF is an IMDb-recognized annual film festival and one of the most prestigious international film festivals worldwide. It emphasizes the diversity of global cinema and aims to encourage filmmakers by celebrating diversity, uniqueness, and innovation in filmmaking.

The School of Performing Arts implements a teaching model that "promotes learning and teaching through competitions, integrating contests with education." By adopting project-based learning, the school emphasizes outcome-driven education, encourages students to participate in domestic and international competitions, and helps them develop comprehensive skills while broadening their horizons. Moving forward, the school will continue to provide more hands-on learning opportunities and build high-quality practical education platforms.
