Opening Ceremony for the 2025 Cohort of the MSc in Project Management of WMG, the University of Warwick


On May 24th, the opening ceremony for the 2025 Cohort 9 of the MSc in Project Management at the University of Warwick was successfully held. Dr. Dawei Lu, Academic Director of the WMG China Master’s Program of University of Warwick, and the representative from Beijing City University attended the ceremony, along with all the new students from the 2025 Cohort.

Dr. Dawei Lu presented an overview of the University of Warwick and detailed information about the Master’s program in Project Management to the incoming students. Additionally, he provided academic guidance focusing on foreign literature retrieval and assistance with thesis writing.

Deputy Director of the Engineering Innovation Center at Beijing City University, Li Changhong, emphasized that since the project was officially approved by the Ministry of Education and launched in mainland China in 2013, over the past twelve years, its graduates have applied their knowledge across various industries and achieved remarkable accomplishments. Many have become leading figures in their fields and mid-to-senior level managers.

Ms. Cui Yankun, representing the International Affairs Office at Beijing City University, took the audience through a visual journey of the project's evolution using cherished historical footage. She conveyed that the project team has been immensely gratified to observe the profound impact this program has had on the professional lives of its participants. It has not only widened their career pathways but also empowered them to achieve remarkable success and recognition within their respective industries.

Subsequently, Luo Weiguo, an exemplary student representative from the 2023 Cohort, highlighted how the Programme and Project Management (PPM) program provides a robust and progressive career advancement pathway specifically for middle managers. He further illustrated his points by drawing comparisons between elite education in China and the UK, using the metaphors of “elephants” and “trees” to elaborate on their similarities and differences.

Li Jiaru, speaking on behalf of the incoming 2025 Cohort, articulated her hopes and dreams for her academic journey. She expressed her ambition to overcome existing career development obstacles by engaging in rigorous and systematic professional training. Her long-term vision is to evolve into a leading figure in project management, uniquely positioned with an international perspective and the skills necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving digital age.

In the final segment of the event, the 2025 Cohort participated in an "ice-breaking" session, where they introduced themselves using thoughtfully selected wisdom cards and shared their personal motivations and expectations for their studies. Each student spoke openly, expressing their eagerness to undergo professional growth through the Programme and Project Management (PPM) program, as well as their genuine excitement for the academic journey that lies ahead.

The opening ceremony came to a successful close in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
