The film 'Boy in the Moonlight', co-produced by Beijing City University, has been selected for the main competition section of the 40th Warsaw International Film Festival. It is the only Chinese feature film to make it to the main competition section of this year's festival.
'Boy in the Moonlight' is directed by Dartse Darje and produced by Su Mingqing, an industry mentor for graduate students in the Drama and Film (Broadcasting and Television Directing) program at our university. Graduate students Zhang Liang and Luo Ting from the same program were involved in shooting the behind-the-scenes documentary and stills photography throughout the production. The stills of 'Boy in the Moonlight' released officially by the Warsaw International Film Festival were taken by Luo Ting.
This is the debut feature of director Dartse Darje, who has previously worked as the executive director on films such as 'Tharlo', 'A Yak in the Snow', 'Wangzha’s Rain Boots', and 'One and Four'. Producer Su Mingqing has extensive experience in producing Tibetan films, with her film 'Scattering in the Wind' receiving four nominations at the 34th Golden Rooster Awards and winning the Best Directorial Debut award, as well as being nominated for the Busan International Film Festival and winning the Best Foreign Language Film award at the Rome International Film Festival.
'Boy in the Moonlight' began filming in 2023 in Nangqen, Qinghai. A behind-the-scenes documentary titled 'Boy Outside the Moonlight', shot by faculty and students from the city’s cultural audio-visual studio, was selected for the long-form documentary section of the 5th HiShorts Film Festival in December 2023.
Established in 1985, the Warsaw International Film Festival is one of the world’s top film festivals, known for discovering new directors and innovative, independent films, earning it the title of a trendsetter among international film festivals. It is hoped that 'Boy in the Moonlight' will showcase its unique charm on the international stage and stand out among many excellent works.
