2024 BCU Chinese Language Training Class held an idiom competition with the theme “Achieve By Accumulation, Remarkable By Expressions”.

On October 28, 2024, the International Affairs Office organized an idiom competition for international students of the 2024 Chinese language training class, themed “Achieve By Accumulation, Remarkable By Expressions”.

The event was host by Wang Lijian from the International Affairs Office, and all international students in the class participated. The competition included three parts: Accumulation Contest—students were required to recall idioms containing numbers, animals, and emotions, and explain their meanings; Idioms Matching—students needed to choose the idiom that best fitted the image and explained its story; Idioms Guessing—students had to say the relevant idioms according to the four images given. The rule was that the first student to correctly answer an idiom would score a point, and the final standings were based on the total points.

Everyone participated enthusiastically, competing to answer questions. After a intense competition, Claudia Gabriela Espana Alzaga, Gabriela Cristina Grajeda and Diego Teohuatzin Valdez Miranda won the top three places.

Wang Lijian awarded the three students with the book “Idiom Stories” as prizes and encouraged them to continue exploring the profound meanings of idioms and make greater progress in their Chinese studies.

As a supplementary classroom activity, the idiom competition, while teaching through lively activities, not only showcased the international students’ positive learning attitude since the semester began but also sparked their interest in further exploring Chinese knowledge and culture. The International Affairs Office plans to organize more activities and competitions related to Chinese language and culture in the future to enhance students’ learning motivation and help them reach a higher level of proficiency in Chinese language.
