Faculty and students of the School of Performing Arts won awards at the 20th Seoul International Dance Competition.

On December 26th, the Dance Performance (Sports Dance and Education) Major of the School of Performing Arts received the award certificate in the 20th Seoul International Dance Competition. Their work The Love of Aranjuez won the second prize in the Expert Choreography Award and Performance Award categories of the competition. The performer of the work was Ms.Bai Xinlu, an external teacher of the Dance Performance (Sports Dance and Education) Major and a graduate student of BCU. And the choreographers were Pro.Shi Qing, Director of the Dance Performance (Sports Dance and Education) Department, and Mr.Guo Shuang, a national first-class choreographer.

The Seoul International Dance Competition is hosted by UNESCO and is one of the high-level dance competitions, which is highly regarded by the dance community of various countries. It is also a dance competition listed on the international white list of Ministry of Education. On the stage of each Seoul International Dance Competition, we can see the figure of Chinese players sweating profusely and interpreting perseverance and love with passion. The competition organizers value the artistic value of choreography and therefore strongly support the creativity of choreographers, striving for the popularization and internationalization of dance art.

The participating work The Love of Aranjuez originated from the 2019 World Horticultural Expo. In order to adapt to this competition, the original movements and high-difficulty technical skills and longer music duration were overturned. It integrated dance and performance elements such as ballroom dance, modern dance, Chinese dance, flamenco, and finally presented as a three-minute solo dance. This work is also a new attempt in the stage works of ballroom dance, promoting the development of the industry. BCU will continue to uphold the teaching philosophy of practicing through competitions and promoting learning through performance to cultivate more students and create more excellent works.
