On August 15, 2023, Ambassador Zhang Run and a delegation of five people from the People's Republic of China Embassy in Mexico visited Guadalajara University and the Confucius Institute at Guadalajara University, our university's partner institution. Ms. Wu Xiaoyan, First Secretary and Education Commissioner, accompanied the visit. The Confucius Institute at Guadalajara University is the first Confucius Institute in Mexico visited by Ambassador Zhang Run since taking office.

Ambassador Zhang had a cordial meeting with Pro.Ricardo Villanueva, the President of Guadalajara University. Guadalajara University introduced to Ambassador Zhang the history of cooperation and achievements in exchange programs between the two universities over the years, focusing on the teaching results and various activities of the Confucius Institute established through collaboration between the two institutions, which was officially launched in January 2023. Ambassador Zhang highly praised the achievements of the teachers and students at the Confucius Institute in Guadalajara and expressed his concern for its development. He also expressed his earnest hope and suggestions that through deep cooperation between Beijing City University and Guadalajara University, it will further promote understanding and exchanges between young people in China and Mexico.


After the meeting, Ambassador Zhang and his delegation visited the auditorium of the affiliated high school department of Guadalajara University. They met with Chinese language students from 13 affiliated secondary schools and this year's scholarship recipients from the Confucius Institute at Guadalajara University. Ambassador Zhang gave the first lecture of the new semester to the students. He reviewed the historical origins of Sino-Mexican exchanges and emphasized the importance of strengthening language and cultural learning and exchanges between young people in China and Mexico in the present era. He expressed his sincere hope of reading ten thousand books and traveling ten thousand miles, which garnered warm applause from the students. During the interactive session, eight high school students from the fifth affiliated middle school of Guadalajara University performed the Chinese song You Look Beautiful When You Smile and presented handmade gifts to the ambassador.


Since August of last year, the Confucius Institute at Guadalajara University has undertaken Chinese language courses for a total of 197 first-year and second-year students from 18 high schools affiliated with Guadalajara University. It has also become the only HSK Chinese proficiency test center in the state of Jalisco, successfully organizing three HSK examinations with a high pass rate. Since its official launch, the Confucius Institute has organized and hosted 18 cultural activities, with a total participation of 655 people. With the joint collaboration of Chinese and foreign directors and teachers at the Confucius Institute, it is steadily developing at Guadalajara University.
