BCU First Kite Making Culture Festival

International Affairs Office organized foreign teachers to participate in the First BCU Kite Making Culture Festival of "Spring Breeze, Begonia Blossom" held by the Student Affairs Office, to experience the traditional Chinese handicraft culture.


During the activity, Mr. Miao Bogang, the fourth generation inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage "Cao's Kite", explained the origin and making process of Cao's kite. The founder of Cao's kite was Mr. Cao Xueqin, the author of A Dream of Red Mansions. Mr. Cao Xueqin's kite art originated from his book Techniques for Kite-making in South and North China written. The book integrates the north and south kite making techniques into one, combining the essence of royal kites and folk culture, and recording the four skills of kite tying, pasting, painting and flying. The foreign teachers concentrated themselves in the lecture to learn and feel the profound cultural heritage and high artistic value of the traditional kite.


After the lecture, the foreign teachers began to make the traditional kite and painted the kite with various colors. This activity has received active participation and strong support from foreign teachers. They all realized that the beauty of traditional kites lies in the hardworking of the craftsman spirit, and also had deep understanding of China's excellent traditional culture.
