The International Affairs Office held the English Speech Contest

On October 20th, the English Speech Contest themed on My Beloved Hometown was held for 2022 International Pre-master students. Relative teachers from the International Affairs Office and the American teacher Mr. Andrew George, who also served as the judge, attended the meeting.

The speech contest is divided into two parts: Presentation and Q&A. In the presentation part, candidates showed their hometown culture from different aspects such as food, clothing, architecture, historical sites, cultural relics, and traditional festivals. In the Q&A part, candidates could select and answer questions in the comment area which audience put forward. In the contest, students won rounds of applause from teachers and audience for their fluent English expression, meticulous logical thinking and wonderful speech content. After fierce competition, Ms. Wu Menghan from the School of Education won the first prize, Ms. Liu Yuhan from the School of Fine Arts and Crafts and Mr. Zhu Shaolong from the School of Economic Management tied for second prize.

After the award ceremony, Mr. Andrew George praised each students for their efforts and shared his favorite Beijing culture and his good feeling of working in Beijing City University. Then Ms. Ma summarized the contest. She encouraged students to improve their English communication skills, learn excellent Chinese culture deeply, showing national confidence when they standing on the international stage.

Lastly, students expressed their great thanks for holding this speech contest, which provide them a great opportunities to improve public speaking skills, and they are looking forward to more language activities.
