"Urban Design Studio" Lecture Held by the School of Urban Construction

On May 25th, Jeffray L.Soule, the professor for Urban Planning postgraduate course in Georgetown University, USA, Former Secretary General of American Planning Association, American Certified Planner, American Planning Academician, and internationally renowned planning expert, was invited to deliver an online lecture entitled “Site Construction: Practice for Sustainable Development of Small Towns and Rural Planning” for junior year students from Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, Landscape Architecture majors, BCU.


Professor Su used vivid cases to explain the importance of sustainable development in China's small town planning, and shared the advantages and lessons from America’s urban and rural planning development experience in-depth. He also compared it with the actual situation in China, looking forward to providing reference and inspiration for urban and rural planning in China, especially the small town planning.


He pointed out that urban and rural planner is a profession with multi-levels and multi-dimensions. He hoped that students will pay more attention to how to realize the symbiosis of stock and increment through planning methods. After the lecture, Academician Su had a Q&A session, focusing on questions raised by students such as how to better alleviate the phenomenon of villages inside cities and how to create a unique city style. The lecture ended in a relaxed and active atmosphere.


Finally, he stressed that only by achieving the comprehensive coordination of government guidance, diversified participation, planning guidance, overall block  planning, stock resource sorting and total amount control, can the urban landscape be deeply explored and the healthy development of urban and rural areas be finally realized.
