On the morning of January 30th, the Confucius Institute jointly built by Beijing City University and the University of Guadalajara was officially established, and we held a grand opening ceremony at the MUSA Art Museum of the University of Guadalajara. The delegation from BCU, teachers and students of the University of Guadalajara attended the event. Representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico and the Confucius Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico were invited to attend the event. Professor Zeng Yuhong from BCU, Mr. Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, the President of The University of Guadalajara, and Ms.Wu Xiaoyan, the Education Commissioner of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, delivered speeches respectively.

Beijing City University and the University of Guadalajara have carried out university-level exchanges since 2018. Both universities have actively explored cooperation and carried out scholarship exchange programs every year. With the strong support of the Chinese International Education Foundation, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, and the Chinese Embassy to Mexico, both universities agreed to jointly build the Confucius Institute. During the epidemic period, exchanges between the two universities have never been interrupted and have always promoted the construction and development of Confucius Institutes. After more than a year of preparation, the Confucius Institute at the University of Guadalajara was officially established. The establishment of the Confucius Institute will promote Chinese language education and Chinese culture in Jalisco State and the western region of Mexico. After the first Chinese course offered at the High School affiliated to the University since September 2022, 120 students passed the HSK Chinese Language Test with excellent results.

  The Confucius Institute at the University of Guadalajara is the sixth Confucius Institute founded in Mexico and is the only one in the western region of Mexico. In the opening ceremony, three teachers from BCU delegation brought the traditional Chinese Peking Opera and Chinese Painting Art Performance, as well as the Western Opera Performance. Their professional performances and artistic attainments left a deep impression on the guests.
