International students from BCU attended the“Xinjiang Through the Eyes of Locals” Sharing Session Beijing

On November 16, at the invitation of Global Times Online, international students and some students from School of International Culture and Communication participated in the “Xinjiang Through the Eyes of Locals” Sharing Session Beijing.

At the meeting, many guests shared their stories with Xinjiang. In the cultural trip to Xinjiang shared by a famous Chinese writer --- Mr. Wang Meng, and a history scholar --- Mr. Ji Lianhai, students learned about the history and customs of Xinjiang; in the sharing of French entrepreneur Besançon Charles Tom and pediatrician Zhou Kaibi, foreigners who have settled in Xinjiang, students understood Xinjiang's inclusiveness, pluralism, and openness, and felt the warmth of the people of Xinjiang in welcoming people from all over the world; In the sharing of young new media workers, Chen Weiru from Taiwan, China, and Haimiti Maimaiti, as well as Meng Lulu, an inheritor of leather carving, students felt the great efforts paid by the new generation of Xinjiang people in writing the stories of Xinjiang; in the sharing of Ju Xiaohong, Director of the General Office of the Hotan Branch of the Beijing Leading Office for Aid and Cooperation, Song Yaojing, Deputy Minister of the Financial Department of the Hotan Branch of the Beijing Leading Office for Aid and Cooperation, Han Jie, Former Principal of Hotan Haidian Elementary School, students felt the unremitting efforts and fruitful results made by cadres from the General Office of the Hotan Branch of the Beijing Leading Office for Aid and Cooperation to support and develop Xinjiang's economy and education; From the story of Nurnishakhan Yasen, director of Xinjiang Jinghe Textile Technology Co., LTD., students felt the determination of local people to work together to develop Xinjiang. From the story of a Uygur walking lover Abu, who walked from Kashgar to Beijing to watch the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen square, the students were deeply moved by the patriotism of local people of Xinjiang.

During the break time of session, the students tried on Xinjiang's local costumes, tasted local food and visited Xinjiang's intangible cultural heritage exhibition. Although the students have not been to Xinjiang, they have been attracted by the specific charm of Xinjiang.

In the future, BCU will continue to coordinate resources to provide opportunities for international students to have a comprehensive and in-depth observation of modern China, to enable them to understand China's development and current situation from multiple perspectives, so as to help the world better interpret China, and to promote the exchanges and mutual understandings of different civilizations.
