I. University Profile
Beijing City University, founded in 1984, is a comprehensive higher education institution approved by the Ministry of Education of China. It is authorized to confer nationally recognized postgraduate and undergraduate degrees and diplomas, while also offering secondary and higher vocational education. The university currently has two campuses, located in Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park and the Airport Economic Zone.
The university comprises ten academic schools (departments) and one graduate school, offering over 70 majors in disciplines such as science, engineering, humanities, law, finance, economics, arts, foreign languages, management, and medicine. With more than 21,000 full-time students and over 2,000 faculty and staff, the university has developed into a high-level, exemplary, international, application-oriented, and comprehensive institution with multidisciplinary coordination.
Beijing City University has established inter-university partnerships with more than 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Italy, San Marino, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Tajikistan, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. These partnerships form a diversified, all-encompassing, and multi-level international exchange model. The university has established two Confucius Institutes overseas in San Marino and Mexico, along with several overseas exchange centers.
The university has been approved for multiple scholarship programs for international students in China. Each year, it welcomes nearly 100 students from overseas partner institutions to participate in distinctive programs or courses in Chinese language and culture, business, traditional Chinese medicine, and media studies. These programs have been highly praised by both international students and partner institutions.
II. Undergraduate Degree Program Overview
1.Communication (International Communication)
Founded in 1999, the Communication Studies program at our university has been recognized as a Beijing municipal first-class undergraduate program due to its unique educational philosophy and comprehensive practical teaching system.
In the era of media convergence, the program keeps pace with new trends in the media industry, aiming to meet the demands of deep integration across all media platforms and innovative industry development. It adheres to an interdisciplinary and cross-specialty broad-based approach to cultivating communication talents, achieving integrated program development and producing outstanding composite communication professionals. The program places a strong emphasis on practical application, regularly guiding students to achieve excellent results in domestic and international professional competitions. It also invites renowned media professionals to deliver lectures and facilitate industry exchanges. The program places great importance on practical activities, offering abundant on-campus media practice platforms and establishing deep internship and practical cooperation relationships with numerous high-quality off-campus media organizations. The Communication Studies program offers three specialized modules: International Audiovisual Communication, Converged Media News Reporting, and Converged Media Advertising Creative Communication.
This program is designed for international students aspiring to work in international communication-related fields, enabling them to gain an in-depth understanding of international communication from a global perspective and apply their knowledge in practice. Graduates can pursue careers in news media organizations, internet companies, and cultural media companies in China or other countries and regions, engaging in roles related to international publicity and communication.
The program enrolls international students who have graduated from high school or hold equivalent qualifications. It is a four-year program leading to a bachelor's degree, with instruction conducted entirely in English.
2. The Bachelor of Finance (International Track)
The Bachelor of Finance (International Track) at Beijing City University was first established as the Finance (International Featured Class) in 2010 and renamed to its current title in 2022, dedicated to nurturing a new generation of high-caliber internationally-oriented finance professionals.
The program boasts a distinguished faculty team jointly composed of professors from our university and overseas partner institutions, senior industry advisory experts, and professional instructors for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examinations. Overseas professors conduct regular on-campus teaching in China, deliver joint courses with our faculty through a hybrid of online and offline modalities, and host a diverse range of academic lectures and salons for students. Industry advisors and professors from partner institutions also participate in the joint supervision of undergraduate graduation theses.
The program’s curriculum is strategically designed for the global business environment. A selection of courses align with the syllabus of the CFA examinations, the most rigorous and prestigious professional qualification in the global investment industry. All core courses are delivered in Chinese-English bilingual or full English instruction modes.
The program grooms internationally-oriented, high-caliber applied finance professionals, who enjoy high employment quality and broad career development prospects. Our graduates are well-qualified to pursue finance-related careers at various Chinese and foreign financial institutions including banks, securities firms, investment companies and insurance companies, as well as relevant economic management departments, enterprises and public institutions.
This program recruits international students with educational attainment at or above the senior high school level. It follows a 4-year academic system, and eligible graduates will be conferred the Bachelor of Economics degree with instruction conducted entirely in English.
3. Accounting (International Track)
Accounting (International Track) at Beijing City University was first established as the Accounting (International Featured Class) in 2010 and renamed to its current title in 2022. It is designed to cultivate internationally-oriented accounting professionals who are well-equipped to meet the demands of practical professional work.
The program boasts a distinguished faculty team jointly composed of professors from our university and overseas partner institutions, senior industry advisory experts, and outstanding part-time accounting teachers with extensive industry experience. Overseas professors come to China for regular on-campus teaching, deliver joint courses with our faculty through a hybrid of online and offline modalities, and host a diverse range of academic lectures and salons for students. Industry advisors and professors from partner institutions also participate in the joint supervision of undergraduate graduation theses.
The professional curriculum system is co-constructed by our university and its overseas partner institutions, adopting the officially designated textbooks for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations as well as classic domestic and international textbooks. All core courses are delivered in Chinese-English bilingual or full English instruction modes.
The program cultivates internationally-oriented, high-caliber applied accounting professionals who enjoy high employment quality and broad career development prospects. Such graduates are well-qualified to engage in accounting work at various Chinese and foreign accounting firms, multinational enterprises, listed companies, government organs and other relevant enterprises and public institutions.
This program recruits international students with educational attainment at or above the senior high school level. It follows a 4-year academic system, and eligible graduates will be conferred the Bachelor of Management degree with instruction conducted entirely in English.
4.Digital Media Arts Program
The Digital Media Arts undergraduate program (Approval Number: MOE11DE2A20252403N), jointly offered by Beijing City University and the Mediadesign Hochschule MD.H, is a Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Program (hereinafter referred to as the "Sino-German Program") approved by the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission. Centered around the planning needs of Beijing's development as an international science and technology innovation center and a "City of Design," the program fully leverages the advantageous resources of both institutions in the fields of digital art and creative technology. By integrating interdisciplinary fields such as digital media arts, digital film design, animation and visual effects, and artificial intelligence, the program aims to cultivate a new generation of Sino-German "hybrid" design engineers with exceptional creativity, interdisciplinary expertise, and strong capabilities in artistic design and technological innovation, thereby contributing to the global rise of China's digital cultural and creative industries.
Graduates of the Sino-German Program benefit from a multidisciplinary professional background and cross-cultural educational experience, offering them broad career prospects, significant development potential, and strong competitiveness in the job market. They also possess distinct advantages for further studies both in China and abroad. Graduates may find employment in internet technology companies, smart hardware research and development institutions, digital creative enterprises, consulting agencies, leading corporations, emerging studios, universities, government agencies, public institutions, and research organizations.
This program is open to international students with a high school diploma or higher qualifications. The program duration is four years, with instruction conducted entirely in English. Graduates will receive an undergraduate degree certificate and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Media Arts from Beijing City University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Film Design – Animation/VFX from the German partner institution.
