Yang Xiujuan, Director of China Garden Museum, Appointed as Distinguished Expert at Our University and Delivers Professional Lecture

Recently, Yang Xiujuan, Party Secretary and Director of the China Garden Museum, was appointed as a Distinguished Expert for the Landscape Architecture major at our university and delivered a professional lecture titled "The Ecological Wisdom and Cultural Philosophy of Gardens". Vice President Wang Limin, relevant Head of the School of Urban Construction, and representatives of teachers and students attended the event.

Wang Limin presented Yang Xiujuan with the certificate for "Distinguished Expert in Landscape Architecture at Beijing City University". In his address, he noted that the university and the China Garden Museum have maintained a cooperative relationship since 2019, and their collaboration in areas such as science communication, practical teaching, and talent cultivation has become a significant support for the development of the Landscape Architecture major.

In her professional lecture, Yang Xiujuan elaborated on three main sections: "Embracing the Profession – Learning the Ecological Wisdom in Gardens", "Perceiving Life – Understanding the Cultural Philosophy in Gardens", and "Creating Beauty – Building a Garden City". She explained the highest artistic realm of Chinese gardens, encapsulated in the phrase "though crafted by human hands, as if naturally formed", analyzed key landscaping elements and classical theories such as those from The Craft of Gardens, and interpreted the "Three Beauties" concept of the capital's garden city initiative—"beautiful, livable, and workable environment; perceptible and accessible life; deeply ingrained virtues"—in the context of ecological civilization construction. This provided students with a clear blueprint for their professional studies and career development.

During the interactive session, Yang Xiujuan answered students' questions one by one. Encouraging the students with the philosophy that "one must first 'understand' to develop 'affection'; only deep understanding leads to sincere love", she urged them to both root themselves in traditional garden culture to absorb classical landscaping wisdom, and to pay attention to the needs of modern ecological construction, aiming to unify personal value with social value in their professional exploration.

This event represents an important practice by our university in integrating high-quality industry resources and advancing the construction of a "dual-qualified" faculty. It is also a concrete measure to deepen university-museum cooperation and jointly cultivate talent in landscape architecture. In the future, the university will further expand the areas of collaboration with the museum through expert lectures, practical guidance, and joint projects, thereby building broader learning and practice platforms for students and helping them grow into key forces for ecological civilization construction, equipped with both cultural literacy and professional competence.
