To enrich the campus cultural life of international faculty, foster cross-cultural exchange and friendship between Chinese and foreign teachers, and offer foreign educators an immersive experience of the unique charm of China’s fine traditional culture, the International Affairs Office organized the 2025–2026-1 Semester International Faculty Cultural Experience Activity on December 15. Teachers from the English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish Departments actively participated in the event.
The activity opened with welcoming remarks by Li Xuemeng, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Office. She summarized the highlights of this semester’s cultural programming, explained its original intent, and expressed her hope that Chinese and international faculty would deepen mutual cultural understanding. She encouraged foreign teachers to explore Chinese culture more thoroughly and serve as cultural bridges—integrating more China-related topics into their classrooms and guiding students to tell China’s stories effectively in diverse languages.
The event featured two signature segments: a quiz on traditional Chinese musical instruments and a touhu (pitch-pot) game.
In the musical instruments quiz, nine sets of images showcasing iconic instruments—including the guqin, pipa, guzheng, erhu, and dizi—were displayed. Participants enthusiastically raised their hands to answer, deepening their knowledge of Chinese musical heritage through lively, interactive competition. The atmosphere was vibrant and engaging.
The touhu segment offered an immersive encounter with intangible cultural heritage. Organizers introduced the historical origins of this ancient game and highlighted its core ethos—“prioritizing ritual over rivalry”—which gave participants fresh insight into traditional Chinese philosophies of conduct. Teams collaborated with ease and composure as they took turns tossing arrows into the pot, not only enjoying a classic pastime but also strengthening interpersonal bonds.
The event concluded with a group photo, capturing a memorable moment and bringing the gathering to a joyful close amid relaxed conversation.
This cultural experience not only created a meaningful platform for dialogue between Chinese and international faculty but also allowed foreign educators to appreciate the profound depth of Chinese traditional culture up close—enriching campus life with greater vitality, warmth, and intercultural connection.
