Recently, the 2024 Graduate Academic Month at Beijing City University successfully concluded. As part of the 40th anniversary celebration series, this month-long event, themed “Pursuing Knowledge with Perseverance, Serving the Nation through Innovation: Shouldering Responsibilities in Research and Technology,” featured two main forums, five sub-forums, and thirty five thematic activities. It aimed to enrich campus academic culture, broaden scholarly perspectives, enhance academic proficiency, and showcase graduate students’ exemplary academic ethos and intellectual vitality. The event was organized by the School of Postgraduate, hosted by various graduate education development centers, and co-supported by the Editorial Office of the Journal of Beijing City University.

The opening ceremony featured five distinguished experts from Peking University, Beijing Film Academy, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Beijing City University. They shared research insights and educational expertise on graduate training and academic development, delivering an intellectual feast for attendees.

The “Master Guidance” sub-forum organized eight specialized lectures with renowned scholars from institutions including Peking University and the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. These sessions analyzed disciplinary advancements, cutting-edge achievements, and emerging trends to help graduate students stay current with academic developments. Meanwhile, the “Peer Mentorship” sub-forum hosted seven alumni-led seminars where outstanding graduates shared career experiences across diverse fields such as social governance, career planning, personal growth, and technological innovation, illuminating academic and professional pathways for current students.

The “Competition Empowerment” sub-forum centered on academic contests involving papers, case studies, and creative works. Seven professional competitions provided students with platforms to showcase their academic achievements and pursue self-improvement. Events such as the Social Work Thesis Competition, Public Administration Case Analysis Competition, and Film & Television Production Contest (specializing in Broadcasting and Directing) vividly embodied the philosophy of “advancing learning through competition.”
The “Mentor Support” sub-forum fostered professional growth for faculty through training sessions and experience-sharing workshops for both new and seasoned supervisors. Focused on enhancing mentoring capabilities, clarifying role responsibilities, and building productive advisor-student relationships, the forum aimed to refine academic guidance and cultivate a dynamic scholarly environment.

The “Achievement Showcase” sub-forum highlighted three key components: academic output exhibitions, practical project demonstrations, and the selection of outstanding academic pioneers. In the academic achievements segment, over a dozen exceptional graduate research papers were recommended for publication in the graduate column of the Journal of Beijing City University. Four exhibition and performance events displayed students’ innovative practical works and artistic talents. The “Trailblazing Scholar” awards recognized fifteen graduate students with the “Innovation and Truth-Seeking” honor, celebrating their exemplary research capabilities.

At the closing ceremony, seven outstanding graduate students presented their academic and practical achievements. Guo Bailu shared insights on “Emerging Forces in Design to Consolidate Poverty Alleviation Outcomes,” exploring how design contributes to sustaining poverty eradication efforts. Yan Tian analyzed “The Art of Balance in Portraying Zhang Yannian in the TV Drama Northwest Years,” delving into character-building techniques in television production. Chen Shaomin discussed “Cultural Heritage and Innovation in Documentary Creation: Insights from Kong-Zhu,” offering strategies for crafting documentaries that blend tradition with creativity.
Liu Yining presented research on “Challenges and Optimization Paths for Township Social Work Service Stations in Beijing,” addressing systemic hurdles in grassroots social work infrastructure. Li Xiaoying showcased “Animated Narratives of Tea Culture Along the Silk Road: From Ancient Trade Routes to the Belt and Road Initiative,” using animation to illustrate tea culture’s transnational and historical influence. Xue Tao demonstrated “Revitalizing Auspicious Beast Imagery Through Cultural Communication: A Case Study of the AI Short Film Chinese Auspicious Beasts: Chaofeng,” highlighting AI-driven creative processes. Chen Xingxing studied the problem of lily bulb rot in Beijing and the screening of its preventive agents based on the paper Biological Characteristics of Fusarium Proliferatum Causing Medicinal Lily Bulb Rot Disease and Its Fungicides Screening, proposing solutions for agricultural

The Graduate Academic Month was not only an intellectual feast but also a profound inspiration, planting seeds of wisdom, experience, and innovative exploration among participants.
