Recently, the 2024 ‘Academy Cup’ International Standard Dance National Open Competition was held in Beijing, organised by China Cultural Administration Association (CSCC)/National Standard Dance Special Committee of Chinese Cultural Information Association (CBDC). The Dance Performance (Sports Dance and Education) major of the School of Performing Arts was invited to participate in the competition and displayed the teaching achievements of BCU in front of the national institutions and the media. At the opening ceremony, the original work of the School of Performing Arts, ‘Concerto in the BCU’ made a stunning debut and gained high praise from the whole audience.
The competition brought together elite dancers from colleges and universities, junior colleges and universities and social amateur organisations from all over the country, and the competition was fierce. More than 80 students majoring in Dance Performance (Sports Dance and Education), adjudicated by professional teacher Ms.Qiu Jieyi and led by external teacher Mr.Gao Miao, win more than 30 prizes after two days of fierce competition. It includes the champion, runner-up, second runner-up and third runner-up of the Elite Group of the under 21 years old and Higher Educational Institutions A, B, and C Groups of the Latin Dance Modern Dance, and so on. Among them, there are 9 champions, 6 runners up, and 11 third place winners.
Since the establishment of the Dance Performance (Sports Dance and Education) programme, it has followed the practical teaching form of ‘competition instead of practice’ and ‘performance for learning’. This competition not only broadened the students' horizons and enriched their experience in the competition, but also was an important practice to implement the concepts of “Sports Strengthening Students” and “Aesthetic Education Transforming Students”, and to promote the all-round development of students. In the future, the programme will continue to develop external communication platforms and meet new challenges.
