From mid-December to late December, the English and Translation Major of the School of International Culture and Communication (SICC) and the University of Essex conducted three joint courses, namely "English Teaching Method", "English-Chinese Translation" and "Consecutive Interpreting". Before the class, the course team of the English Department of BCU conducted the course teaching and research with the teaching team of the Language School of the University of Essex, and had an in-depth exchange on the course teaching objectives, teaching content and teaching methods.

On December 14, Professor Tracey Costley, Head of the Department of Linguistics at the University of Essex, and Ms. Cao Miduo, Lecturer of the English Department of SICC, jointly conducted an online joint teaching of English teaching method for the students majoring in English (English Education) of our school. Professor Tracey Costley spoke to students about the new concept of Translanguaging, a pedagogy that emphasizes the integration of different language resources, language abilities, and language knowledge into teaching to promote students' language development and cultural identity. Cao Miduo shared the teaching cases of this method at home and abroad.

On December 19, Ms. Antonia from University of Essex and Ms. An Yuting from the SICC jointly conducted an online joint teaching of English-Chinese Translation for the students majoring in English and translation in Grade 2022 of BCU. Antonia explained to students the importance of context in the choice of word meaning in translation, and helped students understand the translation of context and culture through specific cases. Ms. An Yuting enriched the specific translation cases, led the students to carry out practical operations, and helped the students solve practical translation problems.

On December 27, Ms. Chantel Chen from the University of Essex came to BCU to give a joint lecture on "Consecutive Interpreting" with Ms. Lyu Linjie for students majoring in Translation. In combination with the basic requirements of interpreters in the translation market, Chantel analyzed the skills that interpreters should have, and emphasized the importance of presentation ability in interpreting work. Lyu Linjie led the students to practice interpreting in the class.

This joint teaching has improved the international teaching level of foreign language majors in our school. Students actively participated in learning and discussion, and gained a lot.
