In the just-concluded 2023 Beijing Smart Manufacturing and SMT Technology Exchange Conference, teachers and students from Qihang Workshop of School of Information Technology of Beijing City University (BCU) participated in the conference as a university representative and demonstrated the self-developed assembly guidance system for complex products based on Augmented Reality (AR) technology, which received wide attention from the participants.

The system is directed by Dr. Zhang Yongzhong and co-developed by students Zhang Ruize, Jia Zhimin, and Qin Tianyi from Qihang Workshop. The system precisely overlays the virtual 3D assembly model with the actual environment through AR glasses to achieve virtual-real integration, providing operators with accurate location and step-by-step guidance, thus improving the accuracy and efficiency of assembly, as well as reducing uncertainty in the assembly process. The flexibility and scalability of the system allows it to adapt to the process and product characteristics of different companies, offering a personalized solution for the manufacturing industry. And the system is likely to improve production efficiency, product quality and reduce costs for manufacturing companies.

The students’ workshop of the School has become an important platform to cultivate students' awareness and interest in innovation and entrepreneurship, and to promote the relevant work of the School. School of Information Technology will continue to actively cooperate with more high-quality enterprises to provide students with more professional training and guidance on innovation and entrepreneurship, and strive to provide support for implementation and transformation of students’ entrepreneurship projects.
