On October 15, on the eve of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, "the Lecture Hall on Chinese-Style Modernization", a newly created large scale academic lecture brand project of Beijing City University (BCU), was inaugurated in the auditorium of the Aerospace City Campus. Professor Song Guilun, Dean of the Institute for the Development of Social Work in the New Era, served as the first keynote speaker of the lecture series and delivered the first lecture titled "Social Construction under the Goal of Chinese Style Modernization". Nearly 400 people in total, including all the teachers of the School of Public Administration and the postgraduate and undergraduate students of BCU, participated in the lecture simultaneously through a combination of online and offline methods at the Aerospace City Campus and Shunyi Campus.
Vice President Zhang Huiying attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. She pointed out that the establishment of "the Lecture Hall on Chinese Style Modernization" is an important measure for BCU to earnestly study Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Second and Third Plenary Sessions of the 20th Central Committee, and comprehensively promote the innovative development of academic theories. At present, deeply understanding, accurately grasping, and actively participating in the grand practice of Chinese Style Modernization is a major proposition and glorious mission entrusted to us by the times. The establishment of "the Lecture Hall on Chinese Style Modernization" is precisely the school's active response to the call of the times and its initiative to serve the overall national situation. It is an important measure to deeply implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and cultivate new people of the era who are responsible for national rejuvenation, and also an innovative practice to promote interdisciplinary and cross-field integration and build a philosophical and social science system with Chinese characteristics. She advocated that the lecture hall should be built into a high-ground for ideological guidance, a platform for academic exchanges, a window for knowledge dissemination, and a position for talent cultivation, and should be carried out online and offline simultaneously for all teachers and students of the school and the public. She hoped that everyone would cherish the precious learning opportunities and actively participate.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Hu Yonghui, Secretary of the Direct Party Branch and Dean of the School of Public Administration.During the lecture, Song Guilun conducted a systematic and in-depth explanation by integrating theory with practice from four aspects: strengthening the goal of struggle, understanding the great significance, studying the experience of Beijing, and exploring the development path. He proposed that we should strengthen the goal of comprehensively promoting Chinese Style Modernization, earnestly understand the exposition in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, fully understand the historical background of Chinese Style Modernization, and accurately grasp the remarkable characteristics of Chinese Style Modernization; we should fully understand the great theoretical and practical significance of promoting the modernization of social construction from the height of following the laws of the Communist Party's governance, socialist construction, human social development, and Chinese Style modernization construction; we should closely connect with the actual situation of the capital, earnestly study and summarize the experience and practices of Beijing's social construction in top-level design, middle-level operation, and grassroots-level work; we should explore the path of Chinese-Style social construction modernization around the dimensions of culture, practice, theory, and policy; we should adhere to problem orientation, demand orientation, goal orientation, integrity orientation, innovation orientation, and efficiency orientation, and actively study and explore the research ideas and practical paths for constructing social service systems, social governance systems, social relationship systems, social environment systems, social mobilization systems, and social operation systems; we should implement the call of General Secretary Xi Jinping, strengthen the development of theteaching material system, disciplinary system and discourse system for social construction; and we should face practice, the world, the future, and science, and promote the modernization, systematization, and theorization of social construction.
Next, relying on "the Lecture Hall on Chinese Style Modernization" as an important educational carrier, BCU will integrate the forces of various departments and faculties, gather leading experts from all walks of life to hold a series of lectures, promote the pattern of interdisciplinary and cross field collaborative education, make the classroom more open and academic activities more vivid, so that the majority of teachers and students and the public can continue to benefit, and help the high-quality development of the school's talent cultivation and discipline and specialty construction.
