BCU's "Digital Innovation and Artistic Heritage" Exhibition Made a Stunning Appearance at the 27th Beijing International High-tech Expo

From May 8 to 11, Beijing City University made a remarkable appearance at the 27th China Beijing International High-tech Expo held at the China National Convention Center. Under the theme "Digital Innovation with Artistic Heritage", the university presented its groundbreaking work in merging modern technology with cultural heritage conservation and intangible cultural heritage preservation through an immersive exhibition featuring artifact displays, informative board, video presentations, and hands-on activities.

During the exhibition, Peng Lingguo, Deputy Director-General of China Vocational Education Association; Zhang Jian, Deputy Director of United Front Work Department under the Beijing CPC committee; and Zhao Ningkang, Level II Bureau Rank Official of the Front Work Department and Secretary General China Vocational Education Association, visited our exhibition area, and highly praised the university's pioneering achievements in digital heritage preservation. President Liu Lin toured the exhibition and received a comprehensive briefing from Professor Chen Qiurong, Director of the School of Cultural Heritage, praising the school's contributions to heritage conservation while further emphasizing the need for deeper integration of technology and cultural preservation.

Central to the exhibition were several landmark projects from BCU's Cultural Heritage Digital Research Center, a National Demonstration Base for the Integration of Culture and Technology. These included the digital preservation of a Ming Dynasty lacquered coffin, 3D laser mapping of the Vajrasana at Zhenjue Temple, and digital documentation projects for the Suzhou Wu Culture Museum, all demonstrating cutting-edge applications of digital technology in heritage conservation.

The exhibition space transformed into a dynamic "mobile museum" where innovative technology met with cultural heritage, representing the fusion between technology and culture, by showcasing the restored Eastern Wei stone Buddha from Qinghua Temple, a testament to technological precision in artifact conservation. The exhibit also presented the "Four Seasons Dolls" series, which particularly captivated audiences by reinventing traditional lacquer techniques like polished lacquer (推光漆), rhinoceros-hide Lacquer (犀皮漆), eggshell inlay (蛋壳镶嵌), and mother-of-pearl inlaid lacquer (螺钿镶嵌to depict natural beauty through contemporary design.

A highlight of the exhibition was the interactive lacquer art workshop, where visitors could experience the drifting lacquer craft (漂漆firsthand. Through hands-on experiences, participants deeply felt the unique charm of Intangible Cultural Heritage techniques.

The 27th China Beijing International High-tech Expo, themed "Technology Leads the Future," featured six themed exhibition sections including information technology, smart manufacturing, healthcare, green development, the digital economy, and regional innovation, spanning across 50,000 square meters, attracting over 800 exhibitors worldwide. BCU's participation not only highlighted its leadership in digital heritage innovation but also strengthened its position as a key player in China's cultural preservation landscape.
