A Gift from BCU for 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics

The opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will be held next month, and Beijing City University has expressed its sincere thankfulness via sending a long letter full of blessings and presents with BCU characteristics, to the BCU volunteers who will be devoted to this Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and to the BCU parents whose children will participate in the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony performance.

To guarantee the smooth progress of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, these BCUers have been fully prepared. The first batch of closed loop volunteers have been on duty, and have began to receive guests from around the world at the airport registry.

CHEN Yuxin, a volunteer from the School of International Culture and Communication in BCU, wrote in her volunteer service diary, “January 5th is the 30-day countdown to the Beijing Winter Olympics, and is also the first day for me to volunteer. Wearing safety goggles is the biggest challenge I encountered today. When the fog begins to spread on the goggles, I can't wipe it immediately, and all I can do is to relax my breath and try not to increase the water fog as much as possible. Although foreign guests couldn’t see my expression clearly behind big protection suit, goggles and masks, I think the open, inclusive and confident Chinese smiling face and kindness could be felt clearly.”

On Jan 3rd, 16 teachers and students from Beijing City University, being the first batch of volunteers for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympics, has been on their way to the “closed loop” work. CCTV, Beijing Daily and other media have all reported this specifically.

An inspiring story is that among the volunteers, GAO Jing from 2019 Human Resources major, shared the Olympic spirit with his father as his father GAO Guotao, was the volunteer for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, providing traffic support for Mexican delegation. In this “double Olympics” family, the daughter now takes up the baton from the father, to work on the first gateway of our country for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

There are over 250 BCU teachers and students engaged in this 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics to secure relevant service work. Among them, 80 general volunteers will be on the post of supporting Capital International Airport registry&activation work, and transportation guidance; 130 BCU dancers have practiced for over 3 months and will demonstrate the outlook of Chinese youth on the opening ceremony; 46 city volunteers will be engaged in the comprehensive management and media reception of the Beijing News Center.
